The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Borno State Chapter has asked Christians to act as ambassadors of peace and reconciliation in their respective communities.
The state CAN chairman, Most Rev Dr John Bogna Bakeni, stated this in his Easter message yesterday in Maiduguri.
Bakeni who is also the Auxiliary Bishop of Maiduguri Catholic Diocese noted that Easter comes with a lot of spiritual benefits and lessons, saying that Christian faithful learn sacrifice, humility and selfless love that God has towards them and which they are expected to extend same to brothers and sisters.
He therefore urged christian faithful to eschew the virtues of love, unity, prayer, peace, faith, Justice, kindness, generosity, charity and goodness to one another, extending such to their muslim brothers and sisters; and even those who do not have any religion.
Noting that there is no doubt, this year’s Easter celebration comes amidst hash economic realities, rising insecurity and blood bath in different parts of the country, with kidnapping and abduction becoming the order of the day, the CAN chairman urged government and all security agencies to rise up to their responsibility and duty of securing lives and property.
“‘I bring you greetings of peace my dear brothers and sisters in Christ. I wish to felicitate with you as we celebrate Easter this year, 2026. May the peace of the risen Christ be with you now and forever.
” At easter we put on the light of Christ, let us bring this light where ever we go, in our homes, churches, offices/places of work, businesses and everywhere. Let us continue to be ambassadors of peace and reconciliation in our communities.
“This year, also we celebrate the Jubilee of Hope, we must bring this hope to the concrete existential realities of our day-to- day life. We must be bearers of this light of hope in a world and society that is darkened by evil and sin, violence and conflict, wars and blood bath.
“As we celebrate Easter, let us rejoice, share our gifts and love with all those around us regardless of our religious affiliations. Let us be ambassadors of peace, justice, hope and unity.
“May Jesus Christ, the prince of peace, grant us that peace to our troubled world and country, Nigeria. May God bless you and I wish you all a peaceful celebration,” Bishop Bakeni said.
