The Canadian Education Council (CEC) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to promote professional academic cooperation and establish the Canadian Education Council International Career Centre on the university’s campus.
This landmark partnership is set to transform the career readiness of OAU students and graduates by providing direct pathways to local and international employment opportunities.
The International Career Centre, to be launched under this agreement, will offer specialized career development programmes, skill-enhancement training, and access to globally recognized employability tests, including the Canadian Education Council Internship Test (CEC-IT) and Canadian Education Council – Employment License Test (CEC- ELT).
These initiatives are designed to equip students with the competencies and certifications required to thrive in today’s global workforce.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, representatives from both institutions emphasized the mutual commitment to addressing graduate employability challenges and aligning education outcomes with market demands.
“This partnership reaffirms our mission to bridge the gap between education and employment,” said Dr. Adeniyi John, Country Director of the Canadian Education Council. “Through this MoU, we are creating a sustainable pipeline that prepares OAU students to be job-ready, while also offering employers access to a vetted pool of highly qualified talent.”
Central to this initiative is the CEC VettedTalents Job Portal, a curated employment platform connecting vetted students and graduates to verified local and international employers. With this partnership, OAU will now serve as a national hub for vetted talents, offering companies a reliable source of pre-qualified candidates for internships, entry-level positions, and mid-career opportunities.
Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, hailed the agreement as a major step forward for the university: “This collaboration will significantly enhance the employability of our graduates, providing them with tools, training, and international certifications to compete on a global stage.”
The MoU represents a shared vision to not only enhance career services on campus but to also position Nigerian graduates for success in both local and global labour markets.
