The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Adewole Adebayo has urged Nigerians not to join in the street protests over the cash scarcity crisis arising from the naira swap policy.
The SDP candidate, in a tweet reacting to the protests in no less than six states on Wednesday, said the street protests were part of a plot to postpone the elections and set up an interim government.
The ongoing scarcity of the Naira notes took a dangerous dimension yesterday morning as no fewer than three persons lost their lives following violent protests that erupted in parts of Nigeria.
In Benin City, the Edo State capital, angry residents, who could not access their monies in commercial banks, took to the streets in protests that led to loss of lives after security forces fired live bullets and teargas to disperse the unruly crowds.
Adebayo however said, “Before joining any street protests, think twice. In fact, don’t do it. Take it from me, this is what they want you to do so that elections can be postponed and a dastardly “Interim Government” is cobbled up comprising the same clique.I have told them to count me out of it. Never!”
