As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to its host community, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has executed several projects geared towards addressing the basic needs of the people.
The bank’s branch controller in Jalingo, Taraba State, Mr Jonah Haruna, who spoke during the inuaguration and handover of the projects, said the apex bank has renovated two blocks of classrooms and an administrative office at Government Secondary School, Howai in Jalingo.
Haruna explained that the project was part of the bank’s CSR initiatives to improve standards and support the education sector, in line with the policy direction of the Governor Agbu Kefas administration.
He disclosed that, in addition to the aforementioned projects, CBN has also renovated hostels, provided a generator set, mattresses, and other essential facilities at the School for the Blind in Jalingo.
According to him, the bank also drilled and installed a hand-pump borehole at Government Day Secondary School, Iware, in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area, while similar interventions have been carried out in several schools and orphanage homes across Jalingo and other parts of the state.
“The renovation of these classrooms and office spaces is aimed at creating a more conducive and inspiring environment for teaching and learning.
“We believe that when students are provided with safe, comfortable, and well-equipped spaces, their capacity to learn will improve significantly,” Haruna said.
He noted that the interventions underscore the bank’s commitment to the growth and development of host communities.
“As an institution whose vision is to be a trusted and respected bank, we recognise that sustainable economic progress is built on a solid foundation of knowledge, skills, and human capital development. This informs our continued intervention in the education sector across the country,” he added.
In her remarks, the Taraba State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Augustina Godwin, commended the CBN for its support to the state’s education sector.
The Commissioner said the projects would complement the state government’s efforts in providing infrastructure across primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
Dr Godwin noted that the free and compulsory primary and secondary education policy introduced by Governor Agbu Kefas aligns with the administration’s drive to revitalise the sector.
She further disclosed that the state government has approved the construction of a model school within Government Secondary School, Howai, to accommodate the growing student population in the area.
