As Nigeria joins the world to celebrate this year’s International Day of Sign Language, the executive director of the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), David Anyaele, has stressed the need to push for higher education for people living with disabilities.
Anyaele told journalists in Lagos that giving higher education in sign language offers Nigeria as a nation to reflect on the extent to which she accommodates citizens that do not speak or hear the way others do.
While congratulating Nigeria’s deaf community, Anyaele, said it was also an opportunity for the citizens to ask critical questions on the extent to which deaf persons are given opportunities to further their education or in governance and socio-economic activities in the society.
