In a step towards environmental sustainability and reduced carbon emission in the country, the Centre for Waste Management and Sustainable Resources has trained 60 persons as ambassadors to drive the zero waste initiative.

Acting Director of the Centre, Dr. Akinyemi Ogunkeyede said the training was held in collaboration with the Community Development Advocacy Foundation (CODAF), for the 60 individuals to serve as ambassadors for the Zero Waste Project on campus.

Participants in the two-day training were drawn from the staff and students of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State.

It focused on equipping participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement the Zero Waste Project across all departments of the university.

The selection process ensured representation from all areas of the campus, ensuring that every department was actively involved in the movement toward a waste-free environment.

Ogunkeyede emphasised the critical role of the newly trained ambassadors in driving the sustainability agenda at FUPRE, urging them to take ownership of the project and ensure its long-term success.

The Zero Waste Project, which aims to create a plastic pollution-free campus, is a key initiative under the university’s broader environmental strategy.

He added that the collaboration with CODAF reinforced FUPRE’s commitment to fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental consciousness among its community, setting a benchmark for other institutions to follow.
