The chairman, Ikwuano local government area of Abia State, Anthony Nwaubani has expressed worry over reports of incessant theft of property and dilapidation of infrastructure at the council secretariat, Isiala Oboro.
Nwaubani stated this after being conducted round the offices, yesterday, urging the state’s security outfit, Homeland Security to investigate the reports and apprehend the suspects for necessary action.
He warned, “Anyone found liable will be handed over to the appropriate authorities to serve as a deterrent to others irrespective of their person or position.”
The chairman attributed the dilapidation to prolonged neglect of the secretariat and the structures by previous administrations and assured of reversal of the narrative.
He noted that the situation would have been far worse if not for the timely intervention of the state governor, Alex Otti, through the immediate past mayor, Osinachi Nwaka.
According to him, he is in office to use the resources of the local government to provide services and infrastructure and not to replace stolen items or vandalized infrastructure.
“Our administration will do everything possible within its power to address these issues and create a more conducive work environment for the council,” he added.
