Ahead of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 18, a PDP support group, known as PDP Restructure Movement, has endorsed a former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Dr Phillips Omeiza Ozovehe Salawu, as the next National Chairman of the party.
The group led by Isa Mu’azu, in a statement, said that in line with the principle of equity, justice and fairness, the chairmanship of the party should return to the North-Central region for them to complete the truncated tenure of the former PDP national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
Mu’azu commended stakeholders who, in good conscience, have been clamouring for reform of the party, including the resignation of the acting national chairman, Umar Damagun, to enable North-Central assume the position zoned to them.
He said that their preferred candidate, Salawu as non-aligned party member, would, therefore, be better positioned to be fair, just and equitable to all concerned.
He disclosed that their candidate’s 3-point Agenda is 3R, which are Reconciliation, Restructuring and Restoration.
The statement read, “We expect the zone to announce their choice before the NEC and it should be North Central, with Salawu as the chosen candidate. It is an incontrovertible fact that the man Dr Phillips Omeiza Ozovehe Salawu PhD, is a man of many parts. He is a phenomenal and quintessential personality, with a larger than life towering achievements in both his public and private endeavours.
“This highly influential and industrious son of Ebiraland is a man with unquenchable hunger for iconic and distinguished accomplishments in life. The former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, has literally conquered the academic world and professional bodies and affiliations, even to the point that, arguably, it is safe to say that there is no mountain left for him to climb again in the ladder of success.
“The political icon and beacon of hope, who is the longest serving former Deputy Governor of Kogi State is constantly in a hurry to make a mark in all his engagements in life. As a former Deputy Governor, his positive contributions to humanity and nation building can not be forgotten.
“Recall that he was one of the founding fathers of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. He was also a member of the Constitution Review national conference, midwifed by former President Goodluck Jonathan, where he made sterling performance at the confab. He is wildly respected for being a man of honour and integrity, who practices what he preach, throughout his tenure in office. Salawu is non-aligned and would therefore be better positioned to be fair, just and equitable to all concerned.”
