Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye has expressed his disappointment regarding Nigeria’s Home-based Eagles’ embarrassing exit from the ongoing 2024 African Nations Championship.
Nigeria’s national B team crashed out of the competition on Tuesday after suffering a disheartening 4-0 defeat to the Falcons of Sudan. The team, managed by Coach Eric Chelle, also lost their opening match 1-0 against defending champions Senegal.
Despite the intense criticism aimed at the Malian coach following the defeats, Ideye defended him, asserting that Nigeria’s home-based players lack the quality to compete at higher levels.
“Let’s stop fooling ourselves and blaming others every time we fail. We’re simply not good enough—that’s the bitter truth.
The coach can only work with what he has. We don’t have what it takes to compete on the bigger stage,” Ideye stated on X.
The Eagles will face Congo in their final group match next Tuesday.
