The Nigerian military yesterday handed over another rescued three-month pregnant Chibok schoolgirl, Ehi Abdul, and her two children to the officials of the Borno State government.

The rescued Chibok girl, who is number 67 on the list of abducted Chibok schoolgirls published by the federal government in 2014, had been in the captivity of Boko Haram for over ten years before her rescue.

Also, the military handed over 330 women and children rescued by troops of the Joint Taskforce in the North East, Operation Hadin Kai, along the Bama and Pulka axis in Borno State, which are all part of the dreaded Sambisa Forest.

Addressing journalists before their handover, the theatre commander of Operation Hadin Kai Joint Taskforce in North-East, Maj-Gen Shuaibu Waidi, said that restoring normalcy in the region led to the two events—the handover of another rescued pregnant Chibok girl along with her two children and the handover of 330 women and children rescued during offensive operations within the Sambisa Forest to the Borno State government for further management.

He noted that the plight of the remaining Chibok girls continues to make national headlines and in the theatre, saying that it had necessitated the conduct of several military operations into enemies’ enclaves with the sole aim of facilitating their rescue.

He said, so far, a total of 19 Chibok girls had been rescued as a result of direct military operations.

“We have gathered here to hand over another Chibok girl rescued during the course of our military operations in Sambisa Forest.

“Her name is Ehi Abdul; she was rescued by troops of Sector 1 Operation Hadin Kai. The theatre would continue to do its best to rescue the remaining Chibok girls in captivity. We thank the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) for all the support he has been rendering to the theatre, which is instrumental to successful operations that facilitated the rescue of Ehi Abdul.”

Presenting the rescued Chibok girl, the acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 division of the Nigerian Army, Brig. Gen Abubakar Haruna, said that on June 23, 2024, Ehi Abdul was rescued during an offensive operation conducted within Sambisa Forest.

“She is 27 years of age. She is Kibaku by tribe. She is at the serial number 67 on the list of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls published by the federal government of Nigeria in 2014,” the GOC said.
