China Harbour Engineering Company Limited has initiated talks with the Abia State government on areas of collaboration for the infrastructure development of the state.
The managing director of the company, Jason Wang, stated this at a meeting with the state governor, Alex Otti, at his office in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
He said currently the firm is handling the Lekki Deep Seaport, the Abuja–Keffi Expressway expansion and the Enugu–Otukpo–Makurdi road, among other major projects across the country.
Wang commended the governor for the remarkable progress recorded in various sectors of the state’s economy, particularly in the area of road infrastructure.
In a response, Otti expressed delight to partner with the firm in areas of rail transportation, seaport development, erosion control, dredging and other strategic infrastructure projects.
He explained that the state is keen on collaborating with the firm on the development of the Azumiri Seaport project, for which a feasibility study is nearing completion.
Expressing a desire to work with the firm on the Abia–Maiduguri railway project, he added that the proposed project is of great economic significance to the state and the South East.
His words, “Akwa Ibom State government has already indicated interest in linking its rail line with our own to enhance trade and commercial activities between our states.”
