Yobe State government says nine persons have died as a result of the cholera outbreak in five local government areas of the state.

In a statement signed by the state  commissioner for health and human services, Muhammad Lawan Gana in Damaturu said the outbreak was confirmed in Machina, Nangere, Gujba, Nguru and Fune areas in the state.

According to him a total of 132 cholera cases were recorded as of September 25 and so far, 112 patients have been treated and discharged.

He said the state had recorded an upsurge in cases of acute watery diarrhoea as a result of the current heavy rainfalls and subsequent flooding in some parts of the state.
