The Synod of the All Nations Evangelism Ministry has condemned the growing political intolerance in Benue State, as individuals with opposing views are either being abducted, molested, or violently attacked.
Chairman of the synod and president of Christian Association of Clergies in Nigeria, Archbishop Yimam Orkwar in a communique issued at the end of the third quarter synod in Makurdi said democracy thrives on plurality of opinions and diverse views for greater participation and accommodation.
He said where political intolerance thrives, the very essence of democracy is threatened as is currently happening in Benue.
The synod appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to decentralise the ongoing voters registration centres for easy accessibility.
The communique also decried the high level of poverty among Nigerians and called on President Bola Tinubu to address this social concern to alleviate the hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
“We want to call on the Tinubu government to re-visit its economic policies which are negatively impacting on Nigerians, such that the rich are getting richer while the poor are sliding into deeper poverty in our God-given land of plenty and abundance, even as the Synod calls on the government at all levels to protect citizens from killer herdsmen, bandits and other terror groups molesting Nigerians across the country.
“The basic responsibility of government at all levels is the welfare of citizens and more importantly, the protection of lives and properties,” he said.
