Christians, Muslims Agree To Work For Peace In Adamawa

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim Council in Adamawa State have agreed to foster peaceful coexistence and promote interfaith collaboration in the best interest of the state.

This commitment was the central discussion when the leadership of CAN paid a courtesy visit to the state’s Muslim Council.

During the visit, the state CAN chairman, Rev. Dr. Joel Danjuma Manzo, who led the delegation, said the meeting was aimed at fostering understanding between the two faiths.

He said the visit was an opportunity to recognise the richness, diversity and strength that lie in shared humanity as created by God.

“I believe this courtesy visit marks the beginning of a new chapter in our relationship—one built on trust, respect, and a shared commitment to the common good of our people in the state,” Rev. Manzo stated.

“As Christians, we believe that by genuinely working together, we can build bridges of understanding that promote tolerance and peaceful coexistence between the two religious faiths.”

Rev. Manzo also commended the Muslim Council for its role in promoting the values of coexistence and expressed CAN’s commitment to serving both faiths and the state in general.

According to him, CAN is ready to support and collaborate with the Muslim Council in areas such as interfaith dialogue, combating extremism, and advocating for the rights and dignity of all citizens.

In response, the state chairman of the Muslim Council, Alhaji Gambo Jika, emphasised the importance of religious leaders setting an example for their followers. He pointed out that when leaders uphold peace and unity, their followers would do the same, making the state even more harmonious.

He assured CAN of the Muslim Council’s commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship and ensuring peaceful coexistence.

Alhaji Jika also acknowledged Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s efforts in uniting both Christian and Muslim communities. He stressed that both religious bodies have no reason not to advocate for peace, unity, and stronger ties that will further deepen relationships between their followers.

He advised that in case of any misunderstanding between the two bodies, their leaders should prioritize communication and mutual understanding, as dialogue is key to resolving issues.

Alhaji Jika also warned against individuals who thrive on disrupting peace, especially through social media, and urged both religious groups to find ways to address such negative influences.

He further cautioned politicians and members of the public to be mindful of their words and to avoid inflammatory statements, particularly those related to government policies and programs aimed at the progress and development of the state.
