A non-governmental organisation, Ben Lion Heart Vanguard has called for the appointment of Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd) as the minister of Defence.
Having previously served as the minister of Interior and Chief of Army Staff, General Danbazzau is considered by the group to be the ideal candidate to oversee the Nigerian military.
In a statement signed by Mr. Ben Willam, a retired air force officer and security consultant yesterday in Abuja directed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said Nigeria needs a patriot at this time to carry out purposeful security oversight with surgical precision to ensure the safety of Nigerians and their property.
The group lauded Danbazzau’s unwavering loyalty to the Nigerian State, the constitution, and national security.
They believe that granting him the opportunity to serve as the minister of Defence would lead to a more professionally supervised security apparatus.
Drawing on his profound understanding of military resources, they said Dambazzau is expected to effectively stabilise Nigeria both internally and externally.
The organisation further said that Dambazzau’s impressive track record commands respect from all branches of the military.
It said his reputation as a capable and principled officer makes him highly suitable for the crucial role of Minister of Defence.
The group said his appointment will herald a critical step in addressing the nation’s security challenges, and they firmly believe that Dambazzau is the right person to undertake this vital defense assignment.
According to him, Danbazzau’s positive impact in the various command and public offices he held remained a footprint of reference in good and exemplary leadership and he did not perform less as minister of interior in institutional/public administration.
Williams said, for example, the former minister of interior created a situation room for the coordination activities of all security and public safety agencies, for a seamless response to emergencies, anywhere they may arise.
He said another footprint was that he led the US-Nigeria Security Sector Initiatives for the reforms of the security sector in response to emergencies, defence procurements, and activities in the northeast.
