Abia State commands of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons have stepped up the fight against human trafficking in the state.

The state commandants, Chukwuemeka Odimba and Izunna Iwobi stated this at the corps’ state headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital, where they strengthened their collaboration with other security agencies in the state.

In his earlier speech, Iwobi reaffirmed the commitment of his command to ensure sanctity of life and human dignity through the pursuit of the agency’s mandate across the state.

Iwobi appreciated the corps, the other security agencies, and the general public for their support to the agency, which according to him has contributed to the success it had recorded.

He said the agency had been leveraging on the corps’ intelligence network to arrest suspected human traffic kingpins and solicited more collaborative engagements going forward

Responding, Odimba noted that although the corps and the agency have different  mandates, they share a common obligation of protecting and ensuring the dignity and sanctity of human lives

He said “We believe in effective synergy and collaboration because no agency can do it all alone. Everywhere the job of protection of lives and property is needed, count us as dependable partners.”
