In an exercise targeted at decongesting correctional facilities, ninety-one (91) inmates were granted bail, while four others were discharged during the exercise.

Justice Danladi explained that the exercise was to decongest correctional facilities across the state.

He revealed that the inmates were recommended for release by the Sub-Committee on Decongestion of Correctional Centres for various valid reasons, including age, prolonged detention, and serious health conditions.

Moving forward, Danladi announced that the details and photographs of released inmates would be documented for reference and tracking purposes.

The CJ urged the freed individuals to be law-abiding, warning that repeat offenders may not be given similar opportunities in the future.

The Controller of Corrections in Katsina, Umar Baba expressed gratitude to the Chief Judge, noting that the exercise not only reduced congestion but also helped to manage the inmate population, ease tension, and improve the reformation process in correctional centres.

Baba further called on judges and magistrates to consider non-custodial sentences, emphasising that such measures would support the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society as responsible citizens.
