Members of the Kano Community Commercial College (KCCC) Old Boys and Girls Association (Class of 1980) have honoured a member, Alhaji Yusuf Abdullahi Atta, over his appointment as the minister of state for housing and urban development by President Bola Tinubu.

The event, which was held in Kano, featured a reception, cultural display by the college’s Koroso dancers and a dinner.

The association’s public relations officer, Abdullahi Shuaibu, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, said the chairman of the organising committee, Alhaji Danlami Garba, expressed delight with Atta’s appointment as a minister, describing him as “a man of exceptional character and remarkable strides.”

“Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Atta is worthy of accolades and honour for his outstanding contributions and performance in public service, politics and other fields of human endeavor,” he said.

Garba stated that the classmates came together to reunite and rekindle hope towards contributing their quota to foster partnership with one another.

Garba, who was a permanent secretary in Kano State Ministry of Education, urged the classmates and public spirited individuals, public and private organisations to help the college to tackle its contending challenges.

The chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, the Ajiyan Hausa extolled Atta’s virtues and advised him to work for the growth and progress of Kano State and Nigeria in general.

Idris, who was a former accountant-general of the federation, tasked the old students to actively participate in the activities of the association to enhance the growth and development of their alma mater.

In his response, the new minister thanked his classmates for recognising him and assured them that the reception would spur him to do more for the good of humanity.

Atta, a former speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, recalled with nostalgia his good old days at the famous college, saying the nurturing he got from the school helped his progression in life.

He pledged to continue to do his best to ensure the growth of the alma mater, as well as the delivery of democracy dividends to the people of the state.

The college established in the 1960s was renamed as Aminu Kano Community Commercial College (AKCCC) in 1993.
