CLEEN Foundation has organised a two-day learning exchange visit for Women, Peace and Security Structures (WPS) for Plateau, Adamawa, and Gombe states to engage in conversation on mediation best practices and uncover ideas that will drive the message across.

The executive director of CLEEN, Dr. Gad Peter, in his opening remarks in Jos, said the exchange visit between the project secondary state platforms and state women mediators in Plateau presents an opportunity for collaborative learning and capacity building in conflict resolution and mediation, particularly focusing on gender perspectives.

According to him, it is a peer review for women mediators, as the challenges of women in Adamawa, Plateau and Gombe states could be different, adding that the learning engagement is an avenue to share knowledge.

“They will be here for the next two days because Plateau State has passed gender equal opportunity laws 12 years ago.

It is an opportunity to share experiences on how they went about it. Again, Plateau has a gender commission, which is another opportunity for them to share their experiences on how best they can approach it in their respective states.”

The executive director also argued that women suffer most whenever there is conflict in communities, adding that when conversations are happening around government committees to look into the immediate and remote causes of conflicts or intervene in such crises, you hardly have such women’s representation.

Earlier, the Plateau State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Caroline Panglang, represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Alex Antony, said they recognized the increasing complexity of conflicts, which demand a multi-stakeholders approach as no entity can single-handedly resolve them.
