As part of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s commitment to tackling climate change, protecting forests, and promoting clean energy, the Adamawa State Government, through the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development, has commenced a five-day training programme on briquette charcoal production for 100 participants drawn from cooperative societies across the state.
Declaring the training open, the Honourable Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Hammanjuba Gatugel, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Kwaji Duguri, congratulated the beneficiaries on being selected and noted that the initiative aligns with the administration’s vision for sustainable and inclusive development.
The commissioner highlighted the training’s significance in light of the state government’s ban on indiscriminate tree felling, which aims to curb deforestation and protect the environment. He explained that briquette charcoal production not only converts agricultural and organic waste into a viable energy source but also provides a cleaner, eco-friendly alternative to traditional firewood, reducing carbon emissions and forest degradation.
He further stated that participants, drawn from ten local government areas across the state’s five zones, will serve as pilot beneficiaries. The government plans to evaluate the effectiveness of the technology with the goal of extending it to rural communities, generating economic opportunities while promoting environmental sustainability.
Gatugel urged participants to be committed and diligent throughout the training so they can acquire the necessary skills and, upon completion, return to their communities to educate others, creating a ripple effect of clean energy adoption and environmental conservation.
