According to Srilata Kammila Head of Climate Change  Adaptation, UNDP She says “With one in eight people  worldwide threatened by a lethal heat wave in South Asia  that’s already taken close to 100 lives, it’s time we recognize that the climate crisis is a health crisis”. This is not an isolated issue. In South Africa, recent floods took  over 400 lives, across the Sahel violence and insecurity are on the rise as people struggle with hunger, malnutrition and other factors made exponentially worse by climate change, and in place like Colombia, health and   food security are at risk as floods displace communities  and trigger disease outbreaks.

This is the most pressing health and humanitarian  challenge of the 21st century. A quarter of a million people are expected to die every year from climate  change between 2030 and 2050 if we do nothing about

it, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO)”.

With serious climate and environmental issues, when  people are displaced from their homes, there is bound to  be poverty, malnutrition, disease susceptibility, epidemic  outbreaks and even mental health breakdowns. The  reasons we all need to contribute to mother earth maintenance. Which in turn makes us achieve, safe water, safe food, safe energy and available healthcare.

While world leaders deliberate and try to make ends meet, there is something you and I can do right where we are.

In our daily lives, the choices we make have a profound impact not only on the environment but also on our health and wellness. Let’s embark on a journey to explore the incredible connection between renewable energy choices, climate impacts, and our overall well-being.

Embracing Solar Brilliance: Imagine harnessing the power of the sun to light up our homes and communities. Solar energy not only reduces our carbon footprint but also enhances air quality. By embracing solar brilliance, we contribute to cleaner air, combating respiratory issues and promoting overall respiratory health.

Wind Whispers of Change: Ever felt the refreshing breeze on a windy day? Wind energy, harnessed by towering turbines, brings us power while keeping the air crisp and clean. Choosing wind power over traditional sources decreases harmful emissions, improving cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of heart-related illnesses.

Hydro Energy, the Flow of Wellness: Rivers and water bodies offer a dynamic source of energy – hydro power. By tapping into this natural flow, we generate electricity without compromising air quality. The ripple effect extends to our health, as cleaner air translates to improved lung function and decreased susceptibility to respiratory challenges.

Energy-Efficient Lifestyle Choices: Beyond large-scale renewables, our daily habits play a crucial role. Opting for energy-efficient appliances, turning off lights when not in use, and reducing overall energy consumption contribute to a healthier planet. This shift positively impacts mental health by fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to a sustainable future.

Green Transportation, Clearer Paths: Consider the way we travel. Choosing eco-friendly transportation options like biking, walking, or electric vehicles reduces air pollution. Cleaner air, in turn, supports lung health and diminishes the risk of respiratory diseases.

Sustainable Dietary Choices: Believe it or not, what’s on our plate matters too. Supporting sustainable and local food sources reduces the carbon footprint of our meals. A plant-based diet not only contributes to a greener environment but also promotes heart health and overall well-being.

Cultivating Green Spaces: Planting trees and creating green spaces have a dual benefit. Not only do they act as nature’s carbon absorbers, mitigating climate impact, but they also provide serene environments that positively impact mental health and stress levels.

In essence, our collective choices echo beyond the immediate environment. Embracing renewable energy and sustainable practices is not just a commitment to the planet; it’s an investment in our own health and wellness. As we make conscious decisions, let’s envision a future where clean energy paves the way to a world where both our planet and our well-being thrive.
