Former minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of stopping the registration of new political parties ahead of the 2027 election.

Amaechi who was a guest at AriseTv Prime Time programme, said INEC has already taken sides, adding that what the commission needs is a chairman that has conscience like, former INEC chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega.

Amaechi, who recently marked his 60th birthday, praised Jega’s electoral umpireship in the 2015 election, adding that the Prof Yakubu Mahood-led INEC has ruled out registration of the new party ahead of 2027.

He said, “The current chairman of INEC, if he was INEC chairman in 2015, we wouldn’t have won. May God bless Jega.

The current chairman can only be compared to Prof Maurice Iwu.”

He said Jega allowed the process to play out in registration of parties adding, “The current man won’t register you.”

He added, “Already he is stopping parties from being registered.”

Amaechi decried the inability to have electoral reforms, adding that there is a state capture using the electoral system as a machine.

The former minister, who is a key member of the opposition coalition movement, accused the President Bola Tinubu administration of not obeying the constitution.

He reiterated that the state of emergency in Rivers State is illegal, just as he lambasted the National Assembly for using voice vote to determine a constitutional two-third majority position at plenary.

He said God used former Governor Peter Odili and his family to make him what he became politically.
