A coalition of civil society groups has dismissed claims linking Senator Shehu Umar Buba, representing Bauchi South, to the sponsorship of banditry and kidnapping.
At a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, the coalition insisted that the accusations were politically motivated and intended to damage the senator’s reputation.
Led by Comrade Garba Muktari, the coalition accused the opposition of orchestrating the allegations due to concerns that Senator Buba, chairman of the Senate committee on national security, may contest the state governorship in 2027 on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
The group highlighted Senator Buba’s contributions to Bauchi State, including road construction, fertiliser distribution, and food relief efforts, and praised his commitment to the welfare of the state’s citizens.
The coalition also urged President Bola Tinubu, the Senate President, and the National Security Adviser to disregard the petition against Senator Buba, describing it as a personal vendetta lacking factual basis.
