The Progressive Youth Agenda and Coalition of Arewa Youth and Students Forum have appealed to relevant stakeholders and the 10th National Assembly members across all parties to support Rt Hon Muktar Aliyu Betara as the speaker of the House of Representatives.
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, leadership of the groups, Comrade Jabir Aminu Maiturare (chairman of the coalition), Hon Simon Terna Anakaa (secretary) and Amb Sidika Yakubu (PRO) said, Rt Hon Betera is a man who possessed all the leadership qualities that can foster unity, development and straighten the bond amond the legislative, judiciary and the executive arms of government.
According to the coalition, the decision to rally support for Rt Hon Betara was agreed after a stakeholders’ dialogue and several consultations across the country following a holistic appraisal and assessment of his track record of achievements in the National Assembly.
“Rt Hon Muktar Aliyu Betara has been a bridge builder, a unifier and a detribalised Nigerian who will foster unity among all the members of the 10th Assembly.
“Betara possesses qualities of leadership since during his secondary days when he became the head prefect in his school in Government Technical School, Benishek, Borno State. Hon Betara, despite not having interest in politics initially, his qualities see him as one who can bring change and development of his constituency and Nigeria at large.
“He joined the then All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) in 2007 to represent the good people of Biy, Kwaya, Kusar, Bayo and Shani Federal Constituency of Borno State and because of his contribution and good representation at the National Assembly, his people re-elected him three times to become one of the longest serving members to serve at the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th Assembly without having any issue arising from anywhere but recommendations, accolades and encomiums by Nigerians,” the coalition said.
