The chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, visited Zamfara and ordered troops to crush bandit leaders such as Bello Turji, among other kingpins, within one month.

Addressing the troops of Operation Fansan Yamma in Gusau on Thursday, the army Chief said this must be done within one month to restore peace and develop the Northwest zone in particular and Nigeria in general.

The Chief of Army of Staff‘s visit to Zamfara State to address the troops in the ongoing onslaught against terrorists was the first of its kind since he assumed duty.

General Oluyede commended the troops for neutralising several bandit kingpins in the state and urged them to redouble their efforts to eliminate other high-profile bandits. This would restore order, stability, and peace and pave the way for development across the Northwest region in particular and the country in general.

He pledged to provide logistics support and improve the welfare of the Frontline troops, stressing, however, that „you must deliver on the ongoing war against banditry in your area of operation.”

“We will give you all necessary support in whatever way you need to enable you to succeed in the fight against banditry”.

The Army Chief, however, stressed that the military alone could not succeed in the ongoing war against violent armed conflict without the people‘s support.

“I want to use this opportunity to call on Nigerians to collaborate with the troops by providing them with credible and timely information to flush out the bandits within the zone.
