Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has stopped selling bundles of improved cassava stems and packs of maize seed to rural women farmers in some communities in the Ukwa East local government area.

Handing over the inputs to the women yesterday, the general manager of the ASOPADEC, Ven. Dr Joshua Onyeike said the gesture is part of ASOPADEC’s moves to ensure community food security.

The general manager, Amarachi Isaac-Uzorchukwu, represented by the director of Social Welfare, urged the people to embrace agriculture, describing it as a veritable livelihood.

She outlined some of the ASOPADEC’s developmental achievements in the area, including the provision of water boreholes to rural communities in Abaki, Ohandu, and Akanu Ndoki and the reconstruction of a civic hall at Eti.

Explaining that others include scholarships to indigent students, she promised that the ASOPADEC is committed to bringing more developmental projects to the communities.

In their responses, some beneficiaries, Blessing Nwakanma and Chinasaokwu Ubani, appreciated the state governor, Alex Otti and the general manager for the gesture.
