Chairman of Abia State Diaspora Commission, Okey Agbara, has said the agency has instituted a universal healthcare where everybody is supposed to be treated.
Agbara stated this, yesterday, when the Abia State governor, Alex Otti, hosted the medical team of the commission on a medical mission in the state in Umuahia, the state capital.
He said they have seen the commitment of the governor to the development of the state, including delivering quality health care and have decided to support him.
“And that’s why we said we’re going to support our government. We’ve instituted training of healthcare professionals in the areas of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation,” he said.
Responding, the governor said his administration believes that healthcare is a right of the people and not a privilege, hence on assumption of office it prioritied the health sector among others.
He thanked the commission for making the medical mission possible and requested the team to extend the medical outreach, saying he would be very happy if they accept to extend it.
The governor said: “I want to thank all of you who came from outside the country to help us support what we’ve been doing in the last 30 months to democratize healthcare.”
”If this mission can be extended, we’ll be very happy. We’ll provide all the support. if you have done this much in a few days, just imagine what could happen if you are here for another week or two.”
Also speaking, the commissioner for Health, Ogbonnaya Uche expressed appreciation to the commission, saying the mission aligns with the administration’s vision for the sector.
According to him, no fewer than 10,000 adults have benefited from medical outreaches in the state in direct health care support, with over 120 surgeries performed.
”Within these five days many peoples’ stories have changed from those who would have died in the next couple of months, to those who are now going to live to fulfill their destiny,” he noted.
