Edo State Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Adaze Aguele-Kalu, has commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for paying the conference fees of all ICAN members in the State’s public service.
She said the governor’s gesture is proof of his commitment to supporting the accounting profession and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity in governance.
Obaseki was the keynote speaker at the 53rd Annual Accountants Conference of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) held recently in Abuja.
In his speech, he highlighted the importance of human capital to national development, especially in a complex nation like Nigeria. He stated that promoting diversity, equity, and inclusivity, especially in governance, has tremendous positive effects on individuals and society at large.
The governor used Edo State as an example of an inclusive state, as it houses all three major ethnic groups in Nigeria. He explained that decisions and actions are taken at the state level to promote and protect diverse interest groups through inclusive governance, being fair and equitable to all, as well as implementing sustainable policies to ensure that no one is left behind.
Obaseki concluded by stating that the promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusivity are not only strategic imperatives but also a moral necessity for positive national development.
ICAN members within the Public Service in the Edo state expressed their gratitude to the governor for his commitment to their professional development and well-being.
They said his support for the accounting profession is further evidence of his commitment to building a strong and diversified economy for Edo State.
