Thousands of travellers and commuters passing through Ibadan to Lagos and other major cities and towns were stranded on Saturday due to the closure of major parks in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Major motor parks in Ibadan, such as those at Iwo Road, New Ife Road, Ojoo, and Challenge, were put under lock due to the ongoing elective national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
It was observed that vehicles coming from other cities and towns to drop off or pick up passengers found it difficult to do so due to the closures.
At Iwo Road and New Ife Road, travellers going to Lagos and other cities and towns were unable to get vehicles to convey them to their destinations from the parks.
Travellers who insist on travelling had to trek long distances outside the city to find means of transportation to their destinations.
A driver who spoke to our reporter stated that the parks were closed because of the PDP convention, but did not provide further details on the reason for the parks’ closure for the convention.
He said, “It will be difficult to load or offload passengers today. All the parks in Ibadan have been shut. Not only in Ibadan, but also in all the parks of Oyo State. It is a statewide thing. No work today. It is throughout the state. No work today. You can see people trekking”.
