The Fulani people have called on government at all levels to always engage their representatives all over the country before taking decisive decisions on matters affecting them.
This was the outcome of a one- day workshop organised by Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation (FUDECO) in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Discussions at the workshop centred around herdsmen/farmers crises and nomadic education.
The guest speaker at the event, Dr Emmanuel Wirkon described the Fulani people as one of the most peaceful tribes in Nigeria whose major preoccupation makes them to be engaged in meaningfully activities rather than causing violence.
He, however, blamed the media for not projecting the Fulani people in a positive light as being done to other tribes. Wirkon acknowledged the efforts of Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at ensuring a peaceful atmosphere among various ethnic groups in the state.
The governor ‘s stride, he noted greatly helped in reducing herders and farmers clashes in Kwara State.
The chairman of FUDECO in the state, Hon. Saliu Umar Sanda said the workshop became imperative to tell their own stories by themselves and change the narrative about the Fulani people.
He emphasised that the Fulani are a peaceful people and not trouble makers.
Sanda acknowledged the support of the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the Fulani community in the state, especially the establishment of nomadic schools in Fulani settlements.
The Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, stressed the need for all the various ethnic groups in the state to embrace peace and continue to co- habit harmoniously.
Represented by his senior adviser/ counselor, Alhaji Saadu Salahu, the governor said meaningful development could only take place when people live together peacefully.
The representative of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, restated the emir’s call for peaceful co-existence of the people of the state.
