The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the recent Cross River and Kebbi State congresses held last weekend.
The PDP’s national publicity secretary, Hon Debo Ologungaba, stated this during a press briefing on preparations for the party’s national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
He said the National Working Committee (NWC) had postponed congresses in Cross River, Plateau, and Kebbi.
However, he said congresses were conducted in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Adamawa, Borno, Niger, and Kogi, adding that the exercise was still ongoing in Ekiti.
He said that, per the provisions of the PDP Constitution, the NWC will sit to review the outcomes of the above congresses.
He said, “In the case of Cross River and Plateau State, where the tenure of the Executive has expired, NWC will constitute a Caretaker Committee who shall run the affairs of the Party.
“Currently, for Cross River State, the South South Zonal Caretaker Committee oversees the Chapter’s affairs as earlier directed by the NWC.”
The party spokesman said the Sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for National Offices was extended.
“Consequent to the need to allow for more consultation and consensus building, the NCOC approved and announced the extension of the deadline for the submission of completed Forms as well as the date for screening of aspirants.
“The extension is necessitated by the need to ensure all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
“As earlier announced, new dates for the exercise will be communicated in due course,” he said.
