Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) has declared its commitment to promoting engineering best practices and strengthening existing partnerships to achieve set goals.
The president of COREN, Engr Sadiq Zubair Abubakar, spoke at a press briefing on the forthcoming 31st COREN Engineering Assembly scheduled for August 7-9,2023, with the theme: “Entrenching and strengthening engineering practitioners’ code of conduct for resilient engineering practice in Nigeria.”
He said, “COREN under the present leadership is being restructured for more effective and efficient operations and service delivery through promoting professionalism, fostering new and strengthening existing partnerships that would lead to positive reforms in the education, training and practise of the engineering profession in our dear Nation.
“A roadmap that would guide the restructuring was developed through a participatory process guided by appraisal, reviews, performance assessments etc.
“The roadmap would ensure that the existing technical departments are strengthened and expanded from five to seven. The scope of activities for COREN will also be expanded to 10 sectors including power, oil and gas, aviation, mining, maritime, telecommunication, transport, agro-allied, manufacturing and production in addition to the Construction Industry.
“The new operational structure of COREN translated into inspectorates will be cascaded from headquarters to the six geopolitical zones and ultimately to all states. This would be re-enforced with the establishment of partnerships with key stakeholders using varied modes of engagements to ensure effective coverage of the entire country.”
The COREN president said COREN Engineering Assembly is an annual event which brings all cadres of engineering practitioners together to discuss issues that will lift the engineering profession to greater heights, adding that attendance at assemblies is compulsory for all practitioners.
Presentations and discussions relevant to the theme will be led by eminent practitioners, scholars and technocrats at the Assembly.
