A civil society organisation (CSO), Campaign for Humanitarian Intervention (C4Hi) has described reports that minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Betta Edu, seek to enrich herself from public funds as spurious and calculated at casting aspersions on her credibility.
An online newspaper had published a story wherein the minister was alleged to have fraudulently directed the Accountant General of the Federation to transfer a sum of money to the private account of another individual.
Addressing journalists in Abuja weekend, convener of the group, Comrade Alhassan Aboh, said the minister’s actions since assuming office had been borne out of a passion to deliver on the visions of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“We have observed with dismay the attempt by the fifth columnist to tarnish the unblemished reputations of the minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Dr. Betta Edu through spurious means. This futile campaign of calumny is aimed at derogating the confidence President Tinubu bestowed on Doctor Edu.
“While many Nigerians are puzzled at this resort to blackmail the hardworking public servant, we wish to remind the minister’s detractors to have regard for her records through the ranks of public service that she has been exposed to.
“This minister remains a bright spot within the present administration and any attempt to distract her should be discountenanced in the best interest of those who need humanitarian interventions,” Aboh said.
The group called on President Tinubu to remain steadfast in his bid to better the lots of Nigerians by putting square pegs in square holes in public service.
“We are confident that President Tinubu, a thoroughbred administrator, would see through the mischievous motives of Doctor Edu’s detractors and not afford them the chance to muddle the president’s plans,” he continued.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been looking into the books of the operations of the erstwhile minister of humanitarian affairs.
