The federal government has intensified its anti corruption drive by taking its whistleblowing campaign to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps across the six geopolitical zones.
The government urged young Nigerians to promote transparency, accountability and responsible reporting of financial misconduct.
The nationwide Whistleblowing Policy Sensitisation Programme, organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance through the Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA), targeted corps members participating in the 2026 orientation exercise.
The initiative is aimed at deepening public understanding of Nigeria’s Whistleblowing Policy and encouraging citizens to play an active role in protecting public resources by reporting suspected corruption, fraud, financial irregularities and mismanagement of government funds through appropriate channels.
The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Alhaji Mohammed Danjuma Sanusi, reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to the programme, stressing the importance of cultivating a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability, particularly among young Nigerians preparing to enter professional and public life.
Sanusi noted that equipping corps members with adequate knowledge of the Whistleblowing Policy would strengthen their understanding of responsible citizenship and the need to safeguard public resources.
He emphasised that the fight against corruption required not only strong institutional mechanisms but also informed citizens who could identify suspected wrongdoing and report it through recognised channels.
According to the permanent secretary, “The initiative represents an important investment in the development of a generation of Nigerians who understand the value of honesty, ethical conduct and accountability in national development.”
Speaking on the initiative, the director of PICA, Seldam Ibrahim Dangin, said the programme formed part of efforts to strengthen public financial management and promote the implementation of whistleblowing measures across the federal government.
The sensitisation sessions introduced corps members to the principles, objectives and significance of the Whistleblowing Policy, particularly its role in encouraging the reporting of suspected financial misconduct and promoting responsible management of public resources.
The programme also emphasised the need for individuals to use appropriate reporting channels, exercise caution when raising concerns and distinguish between genuine disclosures of suspected wrongdoing and unsupported allegations.
The nationwide campaign was designed to bring information about the policy directly to young Nigerians in NYSC orientation camps, ensuring that participants across the country had access to relevant knowledge on transparency and accountability.
Training teams deployed across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) also urged corps members to take advantage of the sensitisation exercise to deepen their understanding of ethical conduct and responsible reporting.
In his remarks, the lead consultant expressed appreciation to the management of the Federal Ministry of Finance, particularly the leadership responsible for Special Duties and PICA, for entrusting his team with the responsibility of delivering the nationwide sensitisation programme.
He also assured the ministry and NYSC management of the consulting team’s continued commitment to professional service delivery, effective stakeholder engagement and the promotion of the core values underpinning the Whistleblowing Policy.
