Gunmen have kidnapped the Council Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, Rev. Gideon Haanongon, along with his Personal Assistant on Administration, Silas Yuhwam, his driver, and his orderly in the early hours of Saturday.

A statement by the Secretary of the Council, Jonathan Modi, said that the incident occurred Saturday morning along Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina Ala LGA at about 6:30 am.

The statement said, “The Chairman was kidnapped alongside his orderly, PA, and driver on their way to attend the burial of the paramount Ruler of the LG, the Ter Katsina Ala, HRH Chief Fezaanga Wombo.”

The statement further advised all citizens to remain calm and law-abiding while measures are put in place to ensure the chairman regains his freedom.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Catherine Anene, said she was yet to be briefed about the incident.
