Council Chairman, Driver, Others Kidnapped In Benue

Gunmen early yesterday kidnapped the chairman of Ukum local government area of Benue State, Rev Gideon Haanongon, his personal assistant on administration, Silas Yuhwam, his driver and orderly.

A statement by the secretary of the council, Jonathan Modi, said the incident took place along Anyagba, Tongov, in Katsina Ala local government area  at about 6:30am.

According to him, they were kidnapped on their way to the burial of the paramount ruler of the area, the Ter Katsina Ala, Chief Fezaanga Wombo.

The statement advised all residents to remain calm and law-abiding while measures were being put in place to rescue them.

Police public relations officer, Catherine Anene, however said she was yet to be briefed on the incident at the time our correspondent contacted.
