The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), in collaboration with the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has carried out a fresh profiling of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and conducted an on-the-spot flood assessment in communities across Sokoto North and South local government areas to complement the efforts of the state government in supporting vulnerable groups.

In Sokoto North LGA, the joint team visited flood-affected communities, including Dadin-Kowa, Layin-Nasarawa/Kirikiri area in Waziri C Ward, Nurawa-Gidan Igwai in Sarkin Adar/Gidan Igwai Ward, and Runjin Sarkin.

The team also profiled new IDP arrivals at Tudun Wada A, B and C.

Findings indicated that most of the displaced persons fled from Maru and Bakura LGAs of Zamfara State, while others were from Ruwa-Wuri in Tangaza, Wurno and Gwadabawa LGAs of Sokoto State.
In Sokoto South LGA, the assessment focused on the Mana-Karama/Tudun Barmu area of Gagi Ward A, where residents are grappling with the dual impact of flooding and severe soil erosion.

Several houses were reported to have been structurally damaged by the disaster.
