Court Frees Man After 12 Years Awaiting Trial

The Adamawa State High Court presided by Justice Bulila Ladokiya Ikaro has discharged Imam Bala Mohammed who spent 12 years in custody awaiting trial.

Ikaro said the matter lacked prosecution’s witness.

Imam Bala Mohammed, until his discharge was imam for the inmates at the Jimeta correctional centre in the state.

The defendant who was awaiting trial was arraigned before the erstwhile Chief Judge, I. K. Banu, and later arraigned before Justice Bulila, where the case was mentioned.

He was accused of killing a man identified as Musa Buba, of Shuware village in Mubi North LGA on March 4, 2011 by shooting him with a dane gun.

It was gathered that Imam Bala through his counsel, Aji Kamale, had earlier approached the court with a bail application where he informed the court that he had since reformed his life for the better.
