Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has remanded an oil marketer, Adeleke Fayose for allegedly obtaining N66.5 million from his victim in a fraudulent oil deal.
The defendant was arraigned before the court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his company, Brooks and Knight International Limited on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The anti-graft agency told the court that the defendants obtained and stole the sum of N66.5 million from GOSL Nigeria Limited under false pretenses.
The prosecutor, Samuel Daji stated that the defendant committed the offences in Lagos.
Daji also maintained that the alleged offences contravene Sections 278, 285 (1)(8) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, and Section 1(3) of the Advanced Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act of 2006.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Mrs Chineye Udeh informed the court of an application for bail she filed on behalf of the defendant, while Daji requested a trial date and more time to respond to the application.
Following the development, Justice Dada ordered that the defendant be kept at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.
She then adjourned the case to December 19 for the hearing of the application.
