An Ogun State Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta on Tuesday remanded four students’ union leaders in prison custody over alleged assault and destruction of property.

The defendants, who are all members of the Ogun State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), were arraigned on a 7-count charge, bordering on conspiracy, assault, harassment and destruction of property within the judicial division of the court.

The suspects, which included: Hezakiah Adelola, General Secretary; Kamil Iseoluwa; Ibikunle Idris and Folorusho Jacob Olugbenga were said to have on different occasions, harassed and assaulted one Kehinde Tejuosho and Lekan Olubodun in which properties valued at millions of Naira were destroyed.

In the charge sheet preferred against them, the four students leaders were said to have contravened Sections 165 and 163 of the Criminal Laws of the state (as ammended) and as such, punishable in the appropriate sections of the Laws.

Meanwhile, all the four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them, thereby compelling the defense counsel to move applications for their bails.
