Court Sentences Bride To Death For Killing Husband 9 Days After Wedding In Kano

A Kano State High Court has sentenced a newlywed, Saudat Jibril to death by hanging for the murder of her husband, Salisu Idris, barely nine days after their wedding.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Maryam Sabo on Thursday after the court found the defendant guilty of culpable homicide.

LEADERSHIP reports the incident whixh drew widespread attention in the state occurred in May 2025 in Farawa, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, where the couple had been living following their marriage.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by the Kano State Government’s counsel, Barrister Lamido Abba Soron Dinki, called three witnesses to establish its case against the defendant.

The defence counsel, Barrister Abdulfatah Muhammad, presented Saudat Jibril as a witness in her own defence.

In her ruling, Justice Sabo held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and accepted the evidence presented by the state.
