The Federal High Court sitting in Gusau, Zamfara state, has halted the move by the state House of  Assembly to sack the minority leader of the house, Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara, a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The minority leader, who is from the opposition APC is representing Talata Mafara South constituency in the state Assembly.

This followed a suit No FHC/GSCS/10/2025 filed by the aggrieved member, Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara against the state’s House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as first, second and third defendants respectively.

The court presided over by Justice Salim Olasupo Ibrahim has on Monday passed the judgment, challenging the sack of the APC lawmaker by the leadership of the state assembly.

The court granted an interim injunction restraining the third defendant, INEC, from conducting a bye-election for the Talata Mafara south constituency, which is currently being occupied by Hon Aliyu Ango Kagara.

Justice Olasupo also ordered that the status quo be maintained pending hearing of the motion on notice and the substantive suit before the court.

The judge then adjourned the case to March 12, 2025.

It could be recalled that the state House of Assembly has so far suspended nine members cutting across party lines, a situation that has left the membership with less than two-thirds of the majority in passing bills.
