LEADERSHIP recalled that six people were hospitalised after the violent attack between suspected political thugs in the ancient town.

This is the first time a violent attack was witnessed since campaign activities began ahead of this Saturday’s governorship election.

A spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, informed LEADERSHIP that those wounded in the attack were members of his party.

According to him, one of the victims was Otunba Olowoniyi Akinleminu.

He further stated that other victims were taken to the intensive care unit of the State Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

However, the CP Oladipo disclosed that the command had convened a peace meeting between the two major political parties in the area.

The CP, through the command spokesperson, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, urged them to maintain peace and prevent their supporters from inciting violence,

According to the statement, “Despite these efforts, however, disturbances erupted overnight, resulting in shootings and a breakdown of public order.

“The case, which has escalated into violence and attempted murder, is currently under investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable and that peace is restored in the area, particularly at such a critical juncture in the state’s history.’’
