The Cross River State Executive Committee (Exco) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has passed a vote of confidence on the state party chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Eba Ogar.
The state party leadership described Ogar as a trusted fellow with a robust capacity to lead the party to victory in next 2027 governorship election in the state.
A motion for the vote of confidence moved by Assistant Treasurer of the party, Dr. Egong Mathew, and seconded by the party’s Welfare Officer, Okara Ekawu, was premised on the satisfaction with the behaviour of Mr. Ogar as the APC state party chairman.
At the APC state secretariat in Calabar on Saturday, Mathew said, “I Dr. Egong Mathew, do hereby move a motion of vote of confidence in favour of our state party chairman.
“Several allegations made against our state party chairman on the social media are not true, and cannot be substantiated.
“The premise on which you came and met us we are formidable, we are confident, as a party, we are united.
“We are confident that our state party chair, Barr. Alphonsus Eba Ogar, and the working statement of the party, is undiluted.
“In no circumstance will you not see us united as a family. You have to hear from us as a body that is united The rumours you heard about our party chairman is fake!
“And so, on that note, we move a motion and pass a vote of confidence in favour of our state party chairman, Barr. Alphonsus Eba Ogar.”
Recall that the social media space was awashed last week with messages by a group of individuals which Ogar described as faceless demanding that he should be sacked from his position of party chairman following the loss of the just-concluded re-run elections for some legislative seats in Cross River State House of Assmebly by candidates of APC to the PDP in Yala and Obanlikwu state constituencies.
Meanwhile, in his reaction to the motion and vote of confidence passed on him by executives of the party, the embattled state party chairman, Alphonsus Eba Ogar, described those demanding for his removal as jesters and men of the fifth columnists.
“Thank God that State Executive Committee still have confidence in me,” Ogar stated.
