The All Progressives Congress (APC), Olulumo Ward, has suspended Ikom local government council chairman Mrs Mercy Nsor, over allegation of misconduct.
A suspension letter dated April 18, 2026 signed by secretary and chairman of Olulumo ward sighted by LEADERSHIP stated that Nsor’s suspension was due to “alleged gross misconduct and anti-party activities.”
In a resolution issued after its meeting, the Ward EXCO said the action followed multiple petitions against Nsor and the report of a Fact-Finding/Disciplinary Committee set up to investigate the claims.
The committee found Nsor “culpable of acts of misconduct in breach of Article 21 of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress.”
The resolution added that she was “accorded a fair hearing in line with Section 36(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
After reviewing the findings, the Ward EXCO ruled that Nsor’s conduct amounted to “gross misconduct, assault, anti-party activities, and actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute.”
Citing Articles 21.1, 21.2 and 21.5 of the APC Constitution, the committee announced her suspension from the party for six months, effective April 17, 2026.
Following the suspension by Olulumo Ward, the Ikom Chapter of the All Progressives Congress also confirmed receipt of the suspension notice.
In a letter addressed to Nsor and signed by the Ikom Chapter Chairman of the APC, Hon. Matthew Egomo, the chapter stated that it had received communication from her ward executive committee confirming her suspension on grounds of “gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and actions capable of bringing the party into disrepute.”
“On this note, the chapter directs that you Hon. Pst. Mercy Nsor stay out of party activities until our investigation is concluded,” the letter stated.
Reacting, the embattled council chairman described the suspension as “illegal and done in bad faith”.
She described it as “one of those poorly executed political booby traps that were hatched for a long time.”
Nsor disclosed that she had already registered her protest with the State Working Committee of the party, which had “promised to look into the matter.”
“I have absolute confidence in the leadership of the party and will continue to work for everybody and for the betterment of our party as well as promote the People First Agenda of Governor Bassey Otu,” she maintained.
