Twenty persons were yesterday honoured for their selfless service to Akai Efa Community in Calabar Municipality local government area of Cross River State.
Among the selfless services rendered to the community that prompted the award includes attraction of solar panel street lights to the community, rehabilitation of bad roads, failed culverts, and donation of some key infrastructural facilities which include school blocks and healthcare facilities among others.
Village head Akai Efa community, HRH Henrietta Efa-Akpera, likened the award to the Biblical inference where King Ahasuerus, who lost sleep to the extent that he ordered for the chronicles of the memorable deeds of his subjects to be presented before him.
“Those chosen for the award were not just handpicked for formality purpose but we choose them because they met the criteria set up by the committee.
“They have been dedicated, persistent in rendering selfless and humanitarian services to the community. Their good works have added value to our community,” she said.
Among the awardees are, former head of service of the federation, Winifred Oyo Ita, lawmaker representing Calabar Municipality state constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Efa Esua, National Assembly lawmaker and member representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani federal constituency, Hon. Etta Mbora, member representing Biass/Akamkpa federal constituency 1, National Assembly lawmaker representing Cross South senatorial district, Senator Gershom Bassey, clan head Ikot Efa community Chief Ayito, and several other distinguished personality in the state.
In his remarks, lawmaker representing Calabar Municipality state constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon Efa Esua, who spoke on behalf of the awardees, said the award would spur them to do more.
