Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIElC) has shifted the conduct of local government council elections to November 2, 2024.
Chairman Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIElC), Dr Ekeng Boco, disclosed this during a media briefing in Calabar on Friday.
The extension of election date is sequel to an appeal by Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) that CROSIEC should liaise with the state government and extend the date of election by one week and review the nomination fees.
In its meeting with election stakeholders Wednesday in Calabar, CROSIEC yielded to IPAC’s demand by slashing the nomination fees from N5 million to N1 million for chairmanship position, while nomination fees for councillorship position was brought down from N1 million to N200,000.
“Also, to ensure a fair and credible electoral process, the commission has graciously extended the election by one week.
“Accordingly, the proposed local government council elections in the state will now hold on Saturday, November 2, 2024, while the campaign will end on Friday, November 1, 2024.
“IPAC and other stakeholders are enjoined to note the above changes and act accordingly. God bless you all,” the CROSIEC chairman stated.
