Bauchi State government has been urged to revitalise the 14 grazing reserves across the state to curb the clash between herders and farmers.
The chairman State Committee for Revitalisation of Grazing Reserves, Dr Umar Liman, made the call while submitting his reports to the commissioner for Livestock in his office.
Dr Liman said most of the gracing reserves in the state have been encroached upon and turned into farmlands by farmers, a situation he attributed to inadequate number of monitoring staff in the grazing
reserve.
Dr Umar Liman also said that all the facilities in the grazing reserves have been vandalized and stressed the need for urgent measures in that direction.
Receiving the report the Commissioner of Livestock Services, Dr Bala Kukshi, said most of the clashes between herders and farmers were as a result of encroachment of grazing reserve.
He emphasised that the ministry has taken the necessary step to address the problems associated with encroachment of grazing reserves in the state.
