The Republic of Cuba has said that it held talks with the United States officials to find solutions ‘through dialogue’ to the crippling oil blockade imposed on Cuba amid the growing threats of US President Donald Trump on the Island country.
Cuban President and First Secretary of the Communist Party ruling the Caribbean country, Miguel Diaz-Canel made this known in his remarks during a meeting with members of the Political Bureau, the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers.
President Diaz-cane in a statement issued by the Cuban government on Friday said the conversations were aimed at seeking solutions to bilateral differences that exist between the two nations in line with the consistent policy of the Cuban Revolution.
He said “there are international factors that have facilitated these exchanges. The purpose of these discussions is, first of all, to identify bilateral issues that require solutions based on the seriousness and impact, and, on the other hand, to find solutions to the problems that have been identified.
“Furthermore, the objective is to determine the willingness of both parties to undertake concrete actions for the benefit of the peoples of both countries. In addition, it is intended to identify areas of cooperation in order to address threats and ensure the security and peace of both nations, as well as in the region where we live and develop our lives, namely Latin America and the Caribbean.”
The Cuban president noted that it has not been, nor is it, the practice of the leadership of the Cuban Revolution to respond to speculative campaigns regarding this type of issue. He added that this is a matter that unfolds as part of a very sensitive process that is conducted with seriousness and responsibility as it affects the bilateral relations between the two nations and requires enormous efforts to find solutions and create spaces for understanding that allow both countries to move away from confrontation.
“During the exchanges that have taken place, the Cuban side has expressed its willingness to carry out this process on the basis of equality and respect for the political systems of both States, as well as for the sovereignty and self-determination of our Government.
“This has been stated taking into account a sense of reciprocity and adherence to international law,” the statement said.
