Our correspondent reports that security personnel’s swift response saved the situation, as tension had already enveloped the area.

LEADERSHIP gathered that despite the 24-hour curfew imposed, these hoodlums in the area resisted security efforts, leading to a tense situation with sporadic gunshots heard.

Our correspondent who monitored the development observed that hoodlums in large numbers invaded the streets with Russian flags, trying to unleash mayhem on innocent people in the guise of staging a peaceful protest.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Commissioner of Police (CP) Olugbemiga Adesina has said the Command is poised to maintain peace in the State and will not allow individuals to plunge it into unruly turmoil.

The Command, in a statement issued by the police public relations officer (PPRO) DSP Alfred Alabo, warned residents to comply with the State Government curfew. Anyone found violating the directive will be arrested and prosecuted by the extant laws of the land.

He argued that their constitutional responsibility is to protect lives and property and ensure public safety. He added that they fully commit to ensuring criminals do not execute their evil plans.

“Our message to the miscreants and mischief makers is simple, leave Plateau State or be ready to face the full weight of the law.”

The statement advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the police control room and call the emergency numbers, 08038907662, 08075391844 and 09053872296

Similarly, the streets and major roads in Jos and Bukuru metropolis have mainly been deserted following the imposition of the 24-hour curfew.

The curfew, which occurred at midnight Sunday, has closed businesses and markets throughout the area. Traders and shop owners have adhered strictly to the government’s directive.

Security personnel and essential service providers can be seen in the otherwise empty streets as citizens comply with the curfew to restore order amid ongoing protests.

The high level of compliance across the metropolis reflects the seriousness with which residents take the curfew as the state seeks to curb unrest and maintain public safety.
